Conrad gets a new look!

Before. In the photo you can see his dad holding the scissors...

And after!
This happened about a month ago and I was waiting for Conrad to write some details but it looks like that isn't going to happen. So here are some photos.

A Spring Brunch

The meal of the month was brunch so Mom and Dad came over on Saturday morning and we enjoyed our meal of the month together.

We had
  • Nova Scotia Bran muffins
  • Pumpkin Scones with Harvest Spice Icing.
  • Baked Apple Pancake with Warm Maple Syrup
  • Breakfast Sausages
  • Quiche Lorraine
  • Mini Pavlova for Dessert

The table cloth isn't really a table cloth. It's a bedspread. We got it from Mom's mom and at the brunch Mom told us the story of how it was made. All of Mom's sisters crocheted on this piece -- usually on a Sunday afternoon. It was more of a chore than a pleasant hobby. Eventually, the girls moved away from home and Grandma took over and finished it off.

It's way too big to be a table cloth so we had to pin it under the table so it doesn't hang on our legs. Then we covered it with a clear piece of plastic to protect it from spills.
It's really too lovely to put on a bed.

Update on MCC's work in Haiti

Arthur reports that MCC International has raised about $12 million for the work in Haiti. Of that, $7 million comes from Canada. The amazing thing is that $3 million of that comes from Manitoba. That's about a quarter of the total raised. What a giving province!

We are thankful to be helping out that way.

The top photo is of Guerlda Jean-Rose in a temporary shelter where she lives with her family. She's holding a sack of rice. The other photo is of Rosette Aime and she's holding a blanket that was sent by MCC. Both women are staying in Fragneau-Ville camp in Port-au-Prince.

"NEW" Shower Area

Arthur has been working on the tiles for the tub surround in the bathroom and he finished up a few days ago. The shower was leaking onto the kitchen ceiling. His first course of action was to re-do the caulking but it still leaked. So then he removed all the grout from between the tiles by hand -- a lot of work! Then he put in new grout and new caulking. The final touch was a plastic shower curtain over the window just to keep that area dry. Et Voila! No more leaking.

Salaam Alekum

After a successful stencil job in the sunroom (which reminded us of Laos with gold and red) we decided to bring a Sudanese feel into the living room. We choose an Arabic script and the words Salaam Alekum - Peace be Upon You. We used the same gold paint as in the sunroom and on the dark yellow (mustard) walls, it give a subtle finish to the room.
The next question is what to do in the dining room -- the next room down the line....
